Sakyamuni Buddha - Lot 104
Sakyamuni Buddha
Buddha in alabaster, lacquered and gilded wood, with mirror inclusions.
Adorned in evocation of Sakyamuni's meeting with King Jambhupatti, typical of the Yadanabon style (three materials). Seated in lotus position, the gesture of taking the Earth as witness. The fingers of the right hand touch the ground, while the left hand rests in his lap, palm facing the sky. The legs are crossed, the soles of the feet facing upwards.
This representation of the Buddha evokes Sakyamuni's victory over the demon Mara and represents the most important moment in Buddhism, that of Awakening.
H: 41 cm
Minor repairs (left foot, base of neck). Missing hand and metal crown.
