Revue de l'Horticulture belge et étrangère edited and publis - Lot 83
Revue de l'Horticulture belge et étrangère edited and published by Fr. Burvenich, O. De Kerchove de Denterghem, Éd. Pynaert, Ém. Rodigas, Aug. Van Geert fils and H. J. Van Hulle. J. Van Hulle - Ghent, Bureaux de la revue, 1875-1900 - 26 volumes, large in-8; red half-chagrin, ribbed spines richly decorated with gilded fillets, fleurons and palettes, illustrated covers preserved. (Contemporary binding).
An important collection published by the most eminent European horticulturists and nurserymen of the period.
The iconography of the present copy consists of 487 superb out-of-text chromolithographs by Pierre De Pannemaecker and over 1,000 illustrations or figures in black, a hundred of which are out-of-text.
Most European plants are covered, including common species such as chrysanthemums, azaleas, roses, begonias, rhododendrons, hydrangeas, tulips, petunias, clematis, verbenas, carnations, hyacinths, narcissi, cyclamen, irises, dahlias, etc., as well as more exotic flowers, notably orchids, which were very much in vogue at the end of the 19th century and are well represented in the illustrations.
A very fine copy in an elegant, decorative period binding of this periodical, which was published until 1914. On page 242, for the year 1897, there is a stamp published on the occasion of the XIVth International Exhibition of the Royal Agricultural and Botanical Society of Ghent.
