Notes : Often found in sepulchres, where they are placed alongside the remains of the deceased, glassware had, however, a typically domestic use in the first instance. Ancient glassmakers began by adopting forms from ceramics (urns, aryballes) and bronzes (ribbed bowls), then, with increasing mastery of the vitreous material, developed their own forms, resulting in a large and highly diversified production.
